Top Olympian demands dismissal of Bajwa to save hockey |

KARACHI : Top Olympians on Sunday demanded the dismissal of Secretary of Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) Muhammad Asif Bajwa following Pakistan's worst-ever 12th spot in the World Cup in New Delhi (India) to save the game in the country.
Speaking at a joint news conference at the residence of former Olympic goalkeeper Qamar Zia, former Pakistan Captain Islahuddin Siddiqui, Moinuddin Ayaz Mahmood, Waseem Feroze and Qamar Ibrahim held Asif Bajwa responsible for all the current problems in Pakistan hockey and demanded his immediate removal.
It was not in the wildest dream of us that our hockey will be going at lowest ebb. It was because of poor polices and dictatorial role of Bajwa, Islahuddin said. He is responsible for all the problems and rapid decline in hockey in the country.
Pakistan which won the World Cup title five-time since its launch in 1971 in Barcelona but slumped to 12th in as many nation event.
They, however, clearly dispelled the impressions created by current PHF regime that we are looking to hijack the game. "We have served with honour and dignity and brought the laurels and glory to the country," they said.
"We need no positions in the PHF set up but we want removal of Asif Bajwa to save the game from further going down the drain," Ayaz Mahmood.
They said they will continue their campaign till orders of removal of Asif Bajwa are issued.
